Implant Retained Crowns: Ted
Description
This engineer came to the office with a failing root canal in one of his front teeth, and it was subsequently deemed non restorable and would need removal. He complained that the rest of his front teeth were discolored and had large discolored fillings. In general, he wished that all his teeth could be whiter. He requested that he never be without a fixed, non-removable temporary appliance from the day he lost the front tooth, and that the temporary appliance looked really nice for his daughter's upcoming wedding. He didn't want to crown any more teeth than he had to. Implant supported crowns in the front of the mouth are among the most difficult cosmetic challenges because of the long healing periods that are necessary for safe treatment and the uneven gumline that often results from tooth removal and implant placement. The temporization of the missing tooth space is equally challenging- the patient must be able to chew and look presentable without showing embarrassing front spaces for the duration of treatment. This patient was pleased with the whole process and especially the final result! Procedures: removal of the failing root canal tooth and immediate placement of a long term custom temporary bridge; whitening; implant replacement of the missing root; training crown to reform lost gum papilla in the implant area; smile design; ceramic crowns with pink porcelain above the implant crown; protective bite guard.
